What I Did this Weekend

I successfully completed my second marathon this weekend!  And with a pretty sizable PR.

I was a bit worried about the race going into it because I did not train as hard as I should have, and I have had some nagging pain in my right knee for the last month. Luckily, the race gods seemed to be with me on Sunday.  The weather was pretty much perfect for running, and I didn't have any problems with my knee at all.

The first half went pretty quick. After that I just focused on ticking off the miles, one at the time. The roughest point came between miles 21-23. My legs felt like cement blocks and all I wanted to do was stop and walk, but I didn't, knowing that it would have been so hard to start running again after walking that late in the race.  Crossing the finish line, I could hardly believe I finished my second marathon.  Fifteen years ago, I was in high school, overweight and barely able to run a 1/4 mile in gym class, so to get to the point in my life where I have run two marathons is still hard to wrap my head around.

During the race and immediately afterward, I was positive that this would be last marathon for a while, but now, a couple of days later, I am not so sure. There is something crazy addictive about pushing your body to it's physical limits and then pushing yourself harder to see how much you can improve.  While I am happy with my time, I know I have better marathon in me and that drive is hard to ignore.
